Montclair United Soccer Academy (MUSA)
For u8 Players (Boys & Girls) 2008/2009
Next tryout date: August 21, 6 to 7:30 pm, Rand School Field, for BOYS AND GIRLS
Montclair United Soccer Club is pleased to announce the formation of the 2008 U-8 Academy for boys and girls (MUSA). The purpose of MUSA is to provide developing players with an advanced training approach in an environment that is enjoyable and sporting for all participants, as well as appropriate in format for players (and parents) of this age group. The program will inspire young players to learn and develop a passion for soccer through a positive reward system.
There is no travel to other towns for weekly play in MUSA. All game-related training will be intra-squad and will be held at one Montclair field (to be determined). However, periodically during the year, tournaments in other towns may be scheduled. A combination of professional and volunteer parent coach/trainers will supervise the program.
MUSA emphasizes learning technique and ball mastery, with the primary purpose of enabling players to play comfortably in match-related settings. Individual player development will emphasize an "all-ball" approach that uses a range of training exercises and techniques to maximize a player’s touches on the ball and foster confidence, creativity and composure in possession of the ball.
PRIMARY GOAL
The primary goal of MUSA is to increase young players' enjoyment of the
game by:
· Improving Technique and Developing Understanding. As young players improve their technical ability they will gain confidence and a greater capacity to process information in close situations on the field, a vital skill for soccer players. MUSA will emphasize small-sided games that foster skill development and imaginative, creative play.
As players achieve success in small-sided games, they will gradually develop game-play understanding. As they progress in later years, players will be better prepared to understand individual positions and how they link together to create relationships with other players in forming a team. In addition, training in MUSA will enable a more fluid and comfortable transition into a competitive travel program, as players will already have a solid foundation of skills on which to rely and build.
U8 SCHEDULE
Players selected for MUSA should be prepared to train three times a week in the following setting:
· Technical training (during the week)
o 1 x 60-minute session
o 1 x 75-minute session
· Scrimmage-based training
o 1 hour on Saturdays.
The Saturday sessions will consist of small-sided, competitive games, with trainer-referees that emphasize employment of general and specific skills. Players will be grouped and rotated in various ways throughout the session to allow for variety and balanced play.
· Winter indoor training
o 1 x 60-minute session per week offered at a location and cost to be determined
· Select tournament events with appropriate match-condition settings will be offered in the winter and spring to enhance the ongoing training.
TRYOUTS
Three tryouts will be held and players must attend at least ONE of these tryouts (players are welcome to tryout at more than one or all sessions). The first tryout date will be June 23 from 5 pm to 8 pm at Watchung Field. The second tryout date will be July 9 from 6 pm to 7:30 pm at Watchung Field. The third tryout date will be in late August or early September at a time and date to be determined and posted on this website.
SELECTION
If selected to MUSA, the cost will be approximately $400 for the fall and spring seasons. The cost for winter indoor training will be additional and will be determined at a later date. Winter training is not mandatory but will be encouraged for players to provide continuity of skill development.
